Amex GBT unveils emissions-based pricing solution

The pricing tool lets clients apply a carbon fee to their travel based upon their selected carbon methodology rather than a flat fee

Jan 22, 2025

American Express Global Business Travel (Amex GBT) has launched emissions-based carbon pricing, allowing customers to apply carbon fees to air travel using selected calculation methods. Fees can be displayed at the point of booking and on invoices, raising awareness of carbon impact and sustainability.

Key takeaways

  • Carbon pricing is a powerful tool to drive sustainability goals. This new solution enables customers to place a value on carbon, channel investment into lower carbon alternatives, and make informed decisions to reduce their carbon footprint;
  • According to Amex GBT, carbon fees can be allocated to a company's sustainability fund to support initiatives such as sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), electric vehicles (EVs), research and development (R&D), and more;
  • Sanofi, a pharmaceutical and healthcare company, is one of the customers using the emissions-based fees, which allow the company to integrate economics, sustainability and technology to improve our business travel program and increase funding for decarbonization efforts such as SAF.
