HotelSlash, the newest player in the price-hacking travel game
The creators of a popular discount car rental booking platform are taking a crack at doing something similar with hotels - a members-only version, that is
HotelSlash aims to provide users with the cheapest possible rate on a hotel room. The $29.95-per-year platform will offer its members “deeply discounted” rates at more than 1 million global hotels and offer the ability to prepay or pay at the time of check-in.
Key takeaways
- Users can book hotel rooms choosing their destination, dates of travel and number of travelers, and will receive an email with a link to the results within minutes;
- The company says the discounted prices HotelSlash receives are “controlled user group rates,” an industry term for prices negotiated by membership organizations and businesses (most likely sourced via hotelbeds.com);
- The service monitors rates for any price drops, in which case users will be alerted and can cancel their existing reservation - assuming the cancellation is penalty-free - and make a new one at the lower rate.
