Marriott to cut hundreds of corporate jobs
Marriott International will lay off 833 employees at its headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland, by early January, the company confirmed
Late last week, the hotel company filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) with the state of Maryland, announcing the layoffs, which will take effect January 3.
Marriott declined to directly address whether the layoffs would affect corporate travel sales positions, but provided a statement confirming the workforce reduction. The company described the move as part of a "strategic review of all aspects of Marriott International's business across all geographies to improve our enterprise-wide effectiveness."
In its statement, Marriott acknowledged the difficulty of the decision, noting that the job cuts in its corporate and regional offices are aimed at "reshaping the way we work" and are expected to be largely implemented by the first quarter of 2025. As part of the initiative, Marriott plans to add several hundred new positions. The company expects that many affected employees will apply for and transition into these roles, allowing them to remain with the company.
