New Google Wallet features for travelers

The company is beta testing a new digital ID in Google Wallet that will now allow users to store a U.S. passport

Sep 13, 2024

People are increasingly looking for ways to digitize everyday items, and one of the most requested features is a digital ID. Last year, we began allowing users to store select government-issued digital IDs in Google Wallet.

Key takeaways

  • Google Wallet secures your digital IDs with Android's advanced, privacy-focused security;
  • IDs are encrypted and require fingerprint, PIN, or passcode authentication before they can be viewed or shared;
  • You control the information you share: Before your digital ID is used for verification, you can review the information being requested.
