The future of Facebook

To set Facebook up for success in the future, Meta is focused on two big things: building the next generation of social media for young adults and leveraging new product capabilities enabled by AI

Jun 5, 2024

Facebook is still for everyone, but to build for the next generation of social media consumers, the company has made significant changes with young adults in mind.

Key takeaways

Over the past five quarters, Facebook has seen robust growth in app usage among young adults in the U.S. and Canada, with more than 40 million daily active users in this demographic - the highest in three years;

Young adults are undergoing major life changes such as moving, attending college, starting a new job or getting their first apartment. Facebook supports these transitions with resources like Marketplace for furniture deals, Reels and Groups for exploring interests, local community and small business connections, and Facebook Dating for meeting new people;

To improve the user experience, Facebook has enhanced its Reels and Feed ranking technologies for better recommendations. In the coming year, these advanced recommendation technologies will be integrated into more products, including the entire video ecosystem and Feed recommendations.
