Nov 21, 2024

Tripadvisor has launched "Travel Through Life", an insight-driven report that explores how life stages influence travel habits and provides strategies for brands to meaningfully engage with consumers. The report examines travel research and booking behaviour across eight life stage categories: college students, newlyweds, new parents, seasoned parents, career builders, established professionals, empty nesters and retirees.

Key takeaways

  • Holiday splurge: Newly Engaged/Married couples like to treat themselves in preparation for their trip - 94% will buy new clothes and 88% will buy new accessories for their trip. Established professionals will also splash the cash, this time on food (70%) and premium products (45%). Meanwhile, retirees are 50% more likely to spend more than $10,000 on travel next year;
  • Destination choices: Where people like to travel varies greatly between groups. Established Professionals like to explore the world (71%), but the beach trumps the rest. Meanwhile, 9 out of 10 empty nesters are drawn to holidays where they can relax and take things slow. Retirees (51%) would like to travel domestically, while students are most looking for memorable experiences (61%).
