UK: Confidence to travel is on the rise

ABTA’s Travel Confidence Index returns for its second year to measure how confident the UK is feeling about overseas travel

According to the latest results of ABTA's Travel Confidence Index, the nation is more confident about traveling abroad than at the same time last year. The Index shows an overall score of +47 for the UK population, an increase of 6 points on last year.

  • The way in which individuals booked their trips has a significant impact on their confidence levels. Those who booked through a travel professional show a strong sense of confidence with a score of +72, while those who took a package holiday last year report an even higher confidence score of +74, up from +70 last year;
  • Families (+62) and individuals aged 25-34 (+60) are the most confident travelers. However, all age groups up to 64 showed more positive scores this year, with the most notable increase in confidence coming from 45-54 year olds, who rose from +34 to +50;
  • The only age group to experience a decline in travel confidence is those 65 and older, whose score dropped from +33 to +26.
